We understand the support we give is filled with technical terms and acronyms. We value transparency and hope this guide helps us all speak the same language.
ABA: Applied Behavioral Analysis
ACRST: Aspiration/Choking Risk Screening Tool
ADL: Activities of Daily Living
APS: Adult Protective Services
AR: Authorized Representative
BCBA: Board Certified Behavioral Analyst
BID: Twice Daily
B/u: Back-up staff
BUW: Back-up Worker
CC: Community Coaching - one-on-one support by a DSP to teach how to safely and effectively navigate one’s community.
CE: Community Engagement - small group support by a DSP to help individuals interact with their community.
CEU’s: Continuing Education Unit
CH: Criminal history
CL Waiver: Community Living Waiver - allows the recipient access to Sponsored Residential, Group Home, and other services.
CO: Certificate of occupancy OR Client orientation
CPS: Child protective services
Credible: online system housing plans for supports and other important information. New system replacing Lauris.
CMS: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
CSB: Community Services Board
Day Support: offers engaging activities and skill building support led by DSPs at a dedicated site and in the surrounding community during weekday set hours.
DBHDS: Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services
DC: Data Center - an online database of information about individuals, Providers, BUW, and staff.
DMAS: Department of Medical Assistance Services
DSL: Daily Support Log
DSP: Direct Support Professional
DSS: Department of Social Services
EMF: Emergency Medical Form
ERP: Emergency Response Plan
ESOP: Employee Stock Ownership Plan (also used as an abbreviation for the idea that Wall is an employee-owned company)
FIS: Family and Individual Supports Medicaid Waiver - allows the recipient access to community based supports such as Supported Living, Day Support, and Community Engagement.
GH: Group Home - provides support to more than two individuals who live in the home. Offers 24 hour awake staffing. May be agency-run, shift based staff or management and DSPs or a sponsored residential Provider’s home that grows to group home status and supports up to four people.
HCBS: Home and Community Based Services
HR: Human Resources
ISP: Individual Support Plan, case management’s annual plan
Lauris: online system housing plans for supports and other important information. Being replaced by Credible.
LG: Legal Guardian
LHRC: Local Human Rights Committee
LOF: Level of Functioning (assessment no longer used)
NEMT: Non-Emergency Medical Transportation
OTC: Over-the-counter
PCR: Person-centered review (same as quarterly report)
PFS: Plan for Supports
PM: Program Manager
PO: by mouth
PP: Privacy practices
PRN: as needed
QA: Quality Assurance (a leadership team within Wall)
QAC: Quality Assurance Coordinator
QD: once daily

SR: Sponsored Residential - a system of support that pairs the individual with a qualifed caregiver called a Provider, who welcomes them into their home and life.
SSA: Social Security Administration
Supported Living: support system that allows an individual to live independently or with natural supports in the community, with 24/7 access to a DSP when needed.
TC: Therapeutic Consultation
The Arc: advocacy organization for individuals with disabilities.
VACSB: Virginia Association of Community Services Boards
VNPP: Virginia Network of Private Providers
VIDES: Virginia Individual Developmental Disability Eligibility Survey (“new” LOF)
WPN: Weekly Progress Note
WRAP: Wall Residences Activity Program (former name of Wall Community Options)
